Kpop Wave is here to stay!

From the country that brought to you kimchi, soap operas and more, the Republic of Korea (South Korea) continues to make waves internationally, proving to the world they can do music too, churning out mega-ly popular hits [such as ‘Nobody’ by Wonder Girls and ‘Sorry Sorry’ by Super Junior] that caught the world’s attention as though shouting out loud “Hey, check out Korean Music man!”

SS501 and Super Junior

And if you think that was it from Korea, you have no idea. Wonder Girls and Super Junior is just the tip of the iceberg, triggering a massive amount of Kpop bands big or small, emerging from the Kimchi state. What makes Korean music on par with international standards is… you don’t have to know the [Korean] language to love the songs!

What makes Kpop (abbreviation for Korean pop music) so alluring to listeners is more than just the sweet/handsome look of the idols, but also their ability to blend a catchy tune with awesome dance moves AND choreography. Seriously, how can anyone dislike Kpop?

I must declare that I am not a Kpop fan, I am a fan of good music, really. Tong Yan asked me to listen to this song; Bad Girl Good Girl by Miss A. And I did, and boy, this song was like a drug, the more I listened to it, the more I liked it! Check out the youtube video below.

The verdict? Kpop is here to stay for a long time. Not just the music though, don’t forget the Kimchi, Bibimbaq, BBQ Chicken/Beef/Pork and the soap operas (Full House, Boys Over Flowers, Dae Jang Geum, etc). The contemporary Korean Culture is a family affair. The music for the kids, the soap operas for the adults, the food for everyone.

Yours Sincerely,
Reuel Eugene
